KIRIBATI HEALTH SERVICE
In Kiribati, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) is primarily responsible for delivering accessible, efficient, and effective health services through a Primary Health Care approach, focusing on both preventive and curative care. The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MFED) plays a crucial supporting role by providing financial oversight, strategic planning, and coordination of development assistance to strengthen the health sector.
One of the key collaborative initiatives between MHMS and MFED is the Kiribati Health System Strengthening Project (KHSSP), funded by the World Bank. This project aims to improve equity and quality of health care across the country, including the rebuilding and equipping of the Kiritimati District Hospital. MFED's involvement ensures that such projects are financially sustainable and aligned with national development priorities.
